Alteas' success stories Altea and Airbiquity announce joint development of European telematics solutions
Munich, Germany - November 2008 Airbiquity, a global leader in wireless communication solutions, has entered into a joint development agreement with Altea to provide end-to-end connected telematics services to the European automotive marketplace.
Altea's platform is able to deliver a variety of telematics applications ranging from fleet management, pay-as-you-drive insurance (PAYD, PPU), traffic management or pollution control, remote diagnostic and roadside assistance by using Airbiquity's patented aqLink in-band modem in aftermarket automotive telematics boxes.
Airbiquity's aqLink in-band modem, which works over cellular networks, will facilitate connections between vehicles and Altea's Dispatching Centers via an embedded wireless module. This unique approach to data transfer will translate into to broader coverage than packet data or SMS solutions enable today and doesn't require a costly data plan.
The solution is a perfect match for Altea's trademark eCall+, a program that enhances the Pan-European eCall initiative to provide safety and security services to passengers, by enabling profitable business models for OEM automobile manufacturers' telematics applications.
Universal Group is an A-rated insurer based in San Juan PR with offices throughout the USA
The automotive division Universal Auto, has been selling SatCom-1, an emergency GPS location and notification system similar to eCall, since 2006.
After a less than satisfactory experience with a previous LBS provider, Universal sought out a reputable provider at the NADA show in Orlando, FL. in February 2006.
After evalueting several reputable LBS providers, Universal chose Altea due to its solid history dating to 1994, global presence and multilingual call centers, its flexibility in developing product suited for the local market, and its approach and commitment in supporting its partner.
Altea was very pleased to have one of the most respected insurance companies in Puerto Rico launch its signature product there.
Thanks to Universal's reputation, SatCom-1 gained acceptance, and market share has grown steadily since its launch.
More importantly, the relationship between Altea and Universal has flourished into a successful partnership between both companies, with a common goal of providing Universal customers the latest in LBS technology coupled with unparalled customer service and support.
Thanks to Altea, Universal has entered the dynamic market of telematics based insurance applications.
Altea's GPS and FCD based solution enabled Universal to amplify its insurance scheme portfolio by including cutting edge services.
